Your address sign has a pretty important job. It needs to help people find your home.

But that doesn't mean it has to be boring.

A custom metal address sign can add character to the front of your home while still doing exactly what it's supposed to do — make your house number easy to see. And unlike a mass-produced plaque from a big-box store, it can actually look like it belongs there.

Designed Around the Home

One of the things we've learned from creating custom address signage is that there isn't one design that works for every house.

A modern home may look best with clean lines, simple numbers and very little ornamentation. A Texas ranch or Hill Country home might call for something with a little more rustic character. Stucco, stone and Spanish-style homes give us an opportunity to incorporate curves, scrollwork and details that complement the architecture instead of competing with it.

That's why we've been expanding our address sign designs into several different styles.

Our newer Santa Fe designs use strong lines, subtle curves and Southwestern influence. Our Mediterranean designs introduce more flowing ornamental details, while our Spanish Revival designs lean into the scrollwork and wrought-iron character commonly found in Spanish-inspired architecture.

They're different looks, but the goal is the same:

Make the address sign look like it was designed for the house — not added as an afterthought.

Custom Means More Than Changing the Numbers

Changing 1234 to 5678 doesn't necessarily make something custom.

We can adjust proportions, layout, ornamentation and overall size depending on where the address sign will be installed. A narrow stone column requires a very different design than a wide stucco wall, entry gate or space above an architectural opening.

Sometimes a simple horizontal address sign is exactly what's needed. Other homes have room for something larger that becomes part of the architecture itself.

We can also work from photographs of the home. Seeing the stone, brick, stucco, lighting fixtures and available space helps us design something that feels appropriate for that particular property.

Good Address Signs Still Need to Be Easy to Read

As much as we enjoy making something unique, an address sign still needs to function as an address sign.

House numbers should be large enough to see and shouldn't disappear into excessive decoration. Contrast, spacing and placement all matter, especially when the sign needs to be visible from the street.

A beautiful address sign nobody can read from the driveway isn't doing its job.

Our approach is to find the balance between design and visibility — enough personality to make the piece interesting without losing the reason it's there in the first place.

Made From Steel in Texas

Our address signs aren't imported plaques with a name or number added afterward.

We design and cut our metal pieces here in Texas, and because we're working directly with the material, we're able to create designs that aren't limited to a handful of predetermined templates.

That also gives us the freedom to experiment.

Some of our favorite designs have started with a customer showing us a photograph and saying, essentially, “Here's the space. What would look good here?”

Those projects often lead us somewhere we wouldn't have gotten with a catalog of standard designs.

Your House Doesn't Look Like Everyone Else's

Your address sign doesn't have to either.
